Breakthrough in prospecting for the first super-large lead-zinc mine in Guizhou

Apr 25,2020

Guizhou's first super-large lead-zinc mine, Hezhang Zhugongtang Lead-Zinc Mine, recently obtained approval for its exploration and reserves evaluation. It submitted 36.4883 million tons of lead-zinc ore, and the lead-zinc metal resource increased by 0.5163 million tons based on the detailed survey, with the estimated total lead-zinc metal resource reaching 3.2744 million tons.

The Hezhang Zhuangongtang lead-zinc mine, Guizhou's first super-large lead-zinc mine, has recently had its exploration reserve assessment filed. It submitted 36,488,300 tons of lead-zinc ore, with an increase of 516,300 tons of lead-zinc metal resources based on detailed investigation, resulting in an estimated total lead-zinc metal resource of 3,274,400 tons.

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the national and Guizhou provincial authorities have always attached great importance to geological prospecting for lead-zinc mines in Guizhou, investing a large amount of manpower and material resources, but without significant breakthroughs. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Natural Resources has emphasized that scientific research should play an important role in achieving breakthroughs in prospecting, building a technological innovation system centered on geological survey units, market-oriented, and integrating production, education, and research. With the support of the Hezhang County Committee and County Government over many years, Hezhang Dingshengxin Mining Development Co., Ltd. invested a huge amount of exploration funds, identified the main controlling factors of the ore deposit, and conducted deep-hole verification. After 8 years of continuous efforts, a detailed investigation report was completed in 2018, delineating 69 lead-zinc ore bodies and submitting 27,762,700 tons of lead-zinc ore; in 2019, an exploration report was completed, delineating 92 main ore bodies, with an average lead-zinc grade of 10%, submitting 36,488,300 tons of lead-zinc ore, estimating a total lead-zinc metal resource of 3,274,400 tons, an increase of 516,300 tons of lead-zinc metal resources based on the detailed investigation, and accompanied by important mineral resources such as gold, silver, gallium, cadmium, germanium, and selenium, equivalent to 6 large lead-zinc mines, achieving the biggest breakthrough in lead-zinc prospecting in Guizhou's history.

The Hezhang Zhuangongtang concealed super-large lead-zinc deposit is located in the heart of the Wumeng Mountain contiguous poverty alleviation area—Hezhang County, Guizhou Province. The region is industrially underdeveloped, with a surplus of labor. After the exploration reserve assessment is filed, its development and utilization will effectively drive local poverty alleviation and enrichment, while providing strong resource support for the development of the basic materials industry in Guizhou.
